Overview
The 4x4 Desert Tour in Merzouga shows the wider desert around the dunes, not just the sand you see from your camp. It suits curious travelers, families and anyone who wants to learn how people live in the Sahara. Your driver guide follows sandy and rocky tracks around Erg Chebbi. You stop at a nomad family tent for tea, then drive to Khamlia, a village of Gnawa families whose music has roots in West Africa. Depending on the season and recent rain, the route can include the Dayet Srji lake, where flamingos sometimes stop, and old mining sites on the black hamada. Lunch is in a local village.
